That is the view of ESPN FC pundit and former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol.
Sanchez is out of contract at Arsenal at the end of the season and has been linked with a move to Premier League leaders Manchester City.
City missed out in an attempt to sign the Chilean on transfer deadline day in August after Arsenal failed to bring in a replacement.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger says Sanchez will not leave in January but he would not be able to stop him from doing so for free at the end of the campaign.
But Nicol says City do not need Alexis Sanchez currently and reckons he will only join them if the likes of Bernardo Silva leave.
“Right now, no (they don’t need him),” the Scot said.
“I think the only way Sanchez goes is if somebody wants to leave.
“The likes of Bernardo Silva who’s not going to get a game, who’s used to playing, obviously played in the Champions League semi-final last year.
“I can’t imagine he’s happy at not playing. If somebody wants away from City, this could happen.
“But if everybody says ‘you know what, I like it here, I’m happy’, it isn’t going to happen. Who wants to leave there?”
Bernardo Silva joined Manchester City from Monaco in the summer but has not been a regular starter under Guardiola.
