Arsenal were heavily linked with Griezmann back in 2013, when the striker was plying his trade at Real Sociedad.
However, a move failed to the Emirates failed to materialise, with the France international since going on to establish himself as one of the deadliest strikers in world football.
Earlier this week, Griezmann claimed the Gunners pulled a plug on a move, saying: I waited, “I waited, and I kept waiting … when there was no news, Eric called Grimandi, who said that the manager was still interested in me [and] to keep waiting.
“Finally a few hours before the market closed, he let us know Arsenal would not make a move.
“I don’t like to be told something and for it not to happen.
“So when Eric told me later that the London club were interested again I told him: ‘Forget it, after the blow they gave us.”
But the Daily Cannon say it may be because of Ozil.
Arsenal stunned the footballing world when they signed the Germany international from Real Madrid on deadline day in 2013.
He only became available late in the window, after Real had completed the signing of Gareth Bale from Tottenham.
Arsenal were seemingly forced to pick which player to pursue.
And they ultimately went for Ozil, who has since helped the club win the FA Cup three times during his stint in north London.
However, the 29-year-old is now expected to leave at the end of the season.
Manchester United are waiting to welcome him with welcome arms, particularly given Jose Mourinho’s admiration for the playmaker.
Barcelona, Real Madrid and Inter Milan have also been touted as potential destinations.
