Fox is attempting to gain full control of Sky as it restarts discussions with Disney
Rupert Murdoch’s 21st Century Fox has restarted talks with Disney about plans to sell large parts of the company.
Disney is interested in the 20th Century Fox movie studio, cable channels such as FX, the Indian broadcaster Star and Fox’s 39 per cent stake in the British satellite broadcaster Sky, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Fox would keep Fox News, its broadcast network and its sports channel.
The firms reportedly met earlier this year but those discussions ended.
The break-up of Fox would mark the dismantling of Murdoch’s media empire, which he built up over several decades.
It also comes as Fox fights to gain full control of Sky in the face of a competition probe.
That £11.7 billion deal is being examined by the Competition and Markets Authority over concerns that it could give Murdoch too much sway over UK media.
But Sky has threatened to pull the plug on its news channel if the deal is not approved by regulators.
