On Tuesday night, UFC commentator Joe Rogan claimed the legendary boxer had talked to the promotion’s president, Dana White, over a shock deal to enter the Octagon.
White confirmed Rogan’s claim in an interview with ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, saying: “We’re talking to Floyd about doing a UFC deal. It’s real.
“He was talking about [boxing] Conor McGregor. Was that real? Have you heard Floyd talk about many things that aren’t real?
“He usually tips his hand when he’s in the media and then that s–t ends up happening.
“We’re interested in doing something with Floyd. Everything is a realistic possibility. Mayweather vs. McGregor f–king happened. Anything is possible.”
It didn’t take long for McGregor to get wind of his former opponent’s supposed intention to enter the cage, a revelation which has shocked the entire combat sports world.
And he had a typical response to the bombshell.
In the early hours of the morning, McGregor posted a picture of himself from the UFC 205 post-fight press conference to his official Instagram page with the accompanying caption: “P***y.”
Talk of Mayweather joining the UFC shocked many in the MMA world, including McGregor’s head coach John Kavanagh.
“I will do the Riverdance naked the day Mayweather fights in the UFC,” Kavanagh tweeted.
“Absolutely never going to happen. Not ever.”
The chances of Mayweather fighting McGregor in the near future are very slim, especially considering the fact McGregor has yet to defend his lightweight title.
McGregor’s first outing back in the UFC is expected to see him take on interim 155lbs champion Tony Ferguson.
