For the weekend of Dec. 9, Streamline recommends “Legion” in the top Hulu spot for the first time.
It’s yet another superhero show and follows our recommendation of “Marvel’s Runaways” in the top spot just last week.
But this Noah Hawley (FX’s “Fargo”) project has far more to say than shows like “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D,” “Marvel’s Inhumans,” “Marvel’s Defenders” and “Marvel’s Iron Fist.”
Show creator Hawley arguably stretched himself too thin while creating this show while simultaneously working on “Fargo.” This debut season went off the rails occasionally. But its high level of ambition, story craft, direction and acting reliably hold this project together more often than not.
Hulu does have an original show debuting a new season this week: “Shut Eye.” Consistently middling-to-bad reviews, though, make it a bad recommendation. Save your time.
This was also yet another week where stories of sexual harassment dominated the news cycle, including politicians Sen. Al Franken and Rep. Trent Frakes stepping down from their positions as allegations surrounding their conduct grew. As such, Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” is worth revisiting.
Note: This list only includes shows that debuted their most recent episode less than a year ago. Much like the main list, it prioritizes newness.
