Facebook has launched live streaming for Messenger games, and says video chats on the platform are coming in early 2018.

The social media network released Instant Games, a platform for gaming with friends through the Messenger chat app, worldwide in May.

The platform now supports live streaming via Facebook Live, meaning users can broadcast their gameplay to their Facebook Page or profile via Messenger.

Facebook has also announced Messenger’s video chat feature will come to Instant Games early next year.

‘Over 245 million people video chat every month on Messenger, with the option to use fun effects and capture pictures of their moments together,’ Facebook said.

‘We’re excited to begin a test soon that will enable people to play games with each other while video chatting.

‘When this feature is introduced early next year, Words With Friends from Zynga will be the first game to use it and allow friends to watch each other’s reactions as they run up the score.’

Instant Games first offered 20 games across 30 markets, including famous titles like Space Invaders, Words With Friends Frenzy and Pac-Man.

The platform now has over 70 games from more than 100 developers worldwide, including recently launches Tetris, the company said.

Popular games like Angry Birds, Sonic Jump and Disney Tsum Tsum will be added to the platform’s library next year, Facebook said.

‘The introduction of games provides a great way to connect with your friends all over the world, aside of normal messaging,’ a Facebook spokesperson told DailyMail.com in May.

‘Its sociable, fun, competitive. Its also a great way to challenge, celebrate and congratulate your friends via the score-based leaderboards and group chats.’
