Fortnite new mode revealed ahead of Game Awards 2017 reveal? | Gaming | Entertainment

The Fortnite new mode announcement is set for tonight during The Game Awards 2017, with fans excited to learn what’s coming to the PS4, Xbox One and PC next.

The game also received a Battle Royale update today, and it appears that fans have been busy exploring it for clues.

And some dataminers are reporting that they may have found new details regarding an upcoming event, and news on what the new Fortnite mode could be like.

Files listing the Athena Event include references to 50vs50 gameplay, something that would apparently be activated during the Winter.

This would function as a new playlist for the game and would also serve as a way to experiment with new Battle Royale options.

Other files also look to confirm the launch of a new Holiday event, much like what we saw with Halloween.

References to a Candy Cane gun have been found which would launch as part of a new winter update for the game.

It should be noted that none of this has been posted by Epic Games, meaning it could all be incorrect, or for something being saved for a future date.

Epic Games have confirmed that the Fornite new mode will be one of the reveals shown off at The Game Awards 2017.

The Game Awards will be kicking off at around 1:30am, GMT, and will be available to watch on Twitch and other platforms.

While there’s no set time for when it will pop up, Epic have confirmed that this new content will be arriving sometime this month.

“We are introducing Limited time modes in December,” Epic confirms.

“Limited time modes are temporary experiences with special conditions that provide new ways to play and allow us to run fun experiments.

“We’ll announce what our first limited time mode is soon… it’s going to be EPIC.”

This could mean anything from new rules being in place for the current Battle Royale map, to changing how the base mechanics works.

The experimentation line is also interesting as these new limited modes could lead to much bigger things.

The annual event is being hosted by Geoff Keighley and will have a couple of new announcements thrown in with the usual celebrations.

Several developers and publishers will be showing off their latest projects, including Epic Games.

New games are expected to be revealed, while the likes of Fortnite, PUBG and a few others are likely to take centrestage.
