GSP receives stern warning from Luke Rockhold, St-Pierre drops bomb | UFC | Sport

St-Pierre reached the summit of the middleweight division last month in the main event of UFC 217, which took place at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The Canadian claimed the middleweight crown with a , a triumph which saw him capture his fourth UFC title.

Despite becoming the new ruler of the middleweight division, St-Pierre’s future in the weight class remains up in the air.

The former two-time UFC welterweight champion has yet to publicly commit his future to the division, a fact which has led many to believe he plans on vacating the belt and returning to the 170lbs division.

Rockhold, the weight class’ former ruler, believes that would be the best outcome for the division and urged ‘GSP’ to relinquish the title earlier this week.

“He’s too small. Guys like me will feast on Georges. He won’t last here. He had his opportunity. He got his belt. Good for you. Just move along,” the California native said during an appearance on The MMA Hour.

“Move along and let us handle our business here. I’m ready to fight. I’m ready to fight something that makes sense, and right now nothing makes sense.

“Obviously, (Robert) Whittaker is the real champ and we’ll move along. And I’m ready to fight him.

“I’m a realist. If Georges were to stay it would be laughable. I’d be seeking the fight. I’m not going to see the fight because I know it’s not realistic.

“Georges won’t fight me. He won’t fight any of us, so do what’s right. Whittaker has been the champ for a long time. He’s been the real champ. Make it official and let’s move on.”

Less than 48 hours after Rockhold called on St-Pierre to vacate the title, the former future Hall of Famer revealed that defending the middleweight belt isn’t in his plans.

“I’m not sure if I compete that I will go back to 185,” St-Pierre told . “I don’t think so.”
