Last year saw the hotly-anticipated release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 and now the outer-space superheroes are set to appear Avengers: Infinity and 2019’s Avengers 4.
James Gunn, who directed the first two Guardians movies has already confirmed Vol 3 will arrive afterwards in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 4.
While a release date was unknown, the filmmaker has now confirmed the third film will be released in 2020.
Answering a fan’s question on Twitter, Gunn confirmed: “Coming in 2020.”
Presumably Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 will be the second entry in MCU Phase 4, following the Spider-Man Homecoming sequel, which hits cinemas in 2019 after Avengers 4.
Both films are set to not only kick off Phase 4, but Saga 2, taking the MCU off in a different direction from Saga 1 (Phases 1-3).
As teased in a mid-credits scene of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, Vol 3 is expected to feature Adam Warlock, although Gunn has not confirmed this yet.
Last year he said: “Despite so many people thinking Adam will show up in Vol 3 that is something that we have never confirmed.
“Who knows how long it will take him to bake in that cocoon. That said, I love Adam. But the time must be right.”
Avengers: Infinity War will be released in UK cinemas on April 27, 2018, followed by Avengers 4 on April 26, 2019 and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 in 2020.
