A baby boy born with an extra penis on his back has had the organ removed.

The additional penis is believed to be all that was left of a parasitic twin who failed to develop.

The unnamed baby is already home and is as healthy as any other newborn.

His parents and doctors were unaware he had the growth until he was born.

A doctor known only as ‘AYU-Skromniy medved’ said: ‘How is it possible that this is all what is left from the second baby?!’

Another doctor, called ‘adelya’, added: ‘This is terrifying.’

WHAT IS A PARASITIC TWIN?

Parasitic twins occur when a baby is born with the attached tissue of an undeveloped twin who died in the womb.

The parasitic twin’s tissues are dependent upon the ‘host’.

Parasitic twins arise when identical twins fail to separate.

It is unclear why this occurs, but may be due to a restricted blood supply during pregnancy, which leads to the death and partial absorption of one of the twins.

The condition occurs in around one in a million live births.

‘The penis on the back is a parasite’

The operation was carried out at the Scientific Research Institute of Pediatrics in Baku, Azerbaijani.

Head of the institute’s neonatology department Gunduz Agayev said: ‘The baby has a normal sexual organ where it is supposed to be.

‘The penis on the back is a parasite, which has been surgically removed.’

Speaking of the undeveloped parasitic twin, Mr Agayev added: ‘Practically all there was left from him was a penis that got attached to the brother’s back inside the womb.’

The newborn’s back was not badly affected by the surgery.

‘This is terrifying’

The growth came as a surprise to doctors, with one, known as Netizen ‘Kam’ saying: ‘Wishing the baby a good health.’

Yet ‘AYU-Skromniy medved’ said: ‘How is it possible that this is all what is left from the second baby?!’

Adelya added: ‘This is terrifying.’

It is unclear where exactly the baby was born or who his parents are.
