Beetroot juice could increase your libido, it’s been revealed.
The root vegetable contains high levels of the mineral boron, which boosts the production of sexual hormones, according to beetroot juice maker BeetActive.
Drinking beetroot juice would help the body to metabolise and use oestrogen for women, and increases testosterone levels in men, it claimed.
Having a healthy sex life is key to getting a good night’s sleep, reducing stress, and potentially boosting the immune system.
“Food as medicine isn’t a new concept, however it does seem to be gaining momentum,” said BeetActive.
“Research has shown that beetroot is amongst a number of foods which can improve libido.
“As well as its libido boosting benefits, beetroot juice also has a number of benefits in terms of general health.
“Beet Active contains 100 per cent concentrated beetroot juice, without added sugar, sweeteners, preservatives, flavourings or colourings, and is an incredibly easy way to add beetroot into your diet.”
Asparagus, celery and avocados could also boost your libido, it’s been claimed.
Asparagus contains high amounts of folic acid, which triggers the production of histamine. A lack of histamine has been linked to an inability to reach orgasm in men and women.
Celery contains the hormone androsterone, which when eaten is released through male perspiration and attracts women.
Avocados is rich in vitamin E, which helps the body to produce hormones like testosterone, oestrogen and progesterone. These circulate in the blood and stimulate sex responses.
A low libido could be caused by sexual problems, according to the NHS.
That includes ejaculation problems, erectile dysfunction, vaginal dryness, painful sex, and the inability to orgasm.
Low sex drive could also be caused by stress, depression and tiredness.
Depression could also lead to low libido, while a low sex drive can also be a side effect of antidepressants.
