Lionel Messi: Barcelona star told Luka Modric may leave Arsenal for Real Madrid | Football | Sport

Real Madrid playmaker Modric is being tipped to quit the club at the end of the season with a return to London on the cards.

Arsenal have emerged as potential suitors to land the Croatia international with the Gunners primed to overhaul their struggling squad.

And Spanish website Don Balon claim Barcelona forward Lionel Messi now thinks Modric may be strutting his stuff at the Emirates next term.

It is said Messi is always attentive to ongoings at Real due to the two clubs’ fascinating rivalry.

And he also reportedly wants to know what goes on because of his battle for individual accolades with Cristiano Ronaldo.

Rakitic plays alongside Modric for the Croatia international team.

Don Balon claim he has told Messi that his compatriot is seriously mulling over whether to join Arsenal at the end of the season.

Modric feels he wants one more challenge before hanging up his boots.

And, should Real axe Zinedine Zidane, a Premier League return beckons.

Meanwhile, Modric recently expressed his regret at how his move away from Tottenham was handled back in the summer of 2012.

“My one regret is that I didn’t win a trophy with Tottenham, despite us being a strong team who played good, attractive football,” he said.

“I’m sorry for the way I left. I wish we had parted in a nicer way. I hope fans understand that I followed my dreams.

“My emotions when I think about the time I spent at Spurs are always really positive. Tottenham is the club that first gave me my opportunity to play in one of the strongest leagues in the world.”
