Lucy: I hoped Hojbjerg’s performance against Everton might have marked a turning point where Pellegrino accepted that, if he didn’t want to play Romeu or Lemina, Pierre was the obvious alternative. Apparently not.

Matt: Shame Cedric Soares is missing for us today! Our most forward thinking player this season!

Tom: Happy to see some changes! Great to see Stan back. Hopefully Defoe can get more involved today too. Only question is why Franno is unstoppable!? Come on you reds!

LATER TODAY

11:50: The south coast derby isn’t the only show in town folks, not by a long shot.

Manchester City, the league leaders by eight points, have surprisingly found the going tougher in recent games, needing late winners to see off Huddersfield and Southampton.

But after 12th successive league wins, few would expect their winning sequence to come to an end as they host struggling West Ham.

David Moyes is still waiting for his first win since taking charge of the Hammers and, after slipping into the bottom three following a hammering at Everton on Wednesday, the odds do not look good for the Londoners this weekend.

NO HOME COMFORTS

11:45: Eddie Howe’s side have lost four of their seven home league games this season – just two fewer than they lost in the whole of 2016-17 (6).

TEAM NEWS – BOURNEMOUTH

11:40: Mega changes for the Cherries too, and it’s NOT done my Fantasy Football side any favours.

Jermain Defoe, Adam Smith, Lewis Cook, Junior Stanislas and Ryan Fraser all start in the early kick-off.

Callum Wilson, Steve Cook, Jordon Ibe and Marc Pugh drop to the bench.

No Harry Arter in the matchday squad.

TEAM NEWS – SOUTHAMPTON

11:35: Southampton make six changes. Yep, that’s way more than I expected after the narrow defeat to Manchester City on Wednesday.

Jeremy Pied, Charlie Austin, Dusan Tadic, Steven Davis, Sofiane Boufal and James Ward-Prowse all come in.

Miya Yoshida, Nathan Redmond, Mario Lemina and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg are benched.

Shane Long who fails to recover from a calf problem, while Cedric Soares is also inured.

AFTERNOON

12:25: Welcome to our LIVE coverage of Bournemouth vs Southampton from the Vitality Stadium.

We’re gearing up for the south coast derby, which many believe is NOT an actual derby.

We can get stuck into that later. I’ll require a bucket of coffee before I wade into that prickly debate…

Bournemouth host the Saints looking for an instant response from the midweek home defeat by Burnley, while Mauricio Pellegrino will hope to bounce back from that gutting last-second defeat to Manchester City.

Let’s get going!

BOURNEMOUTH vs SOUTHAMPTON – PREVIEW

Bournemouth will make a late decision on midfielder Junior Stanislas. He has been out since the end of October with a groin problem but has resumed some training.

Defenders Brad Smith (hip) and Tyrone Mings (back) continue their rehabilitation.

Striker Shane Long will face a late fitness test for Southampton after sustaining a calf problem. He missed training on Friday and is due to be assessed again on Saturday.

Cedric Soares will definitely miss out after suffering a hamstring problem in Saints’ 2-1 loss at Manchester City on Wednesday.

Last season: Southampton 0 Bournemouth 0, Bournemouth 1 Southampton 3

Last five league matches: Bournemouth L W W D L; Southampton D L L W L

Top scorers (all competitions): Callum Wilson (Bournemouth) 4; Steven Davis, Manolo Gabbiadini & Charlie Austin (Southampton) 3
