UFC Hall of Famer Bas Rutten wants to see Conor McGregor rematch Max Holloway after he defends his lightweight title against interim 155lbs champion Tony Ferguson.
“First of all, (he needs to fight) the interim champion,” the former UFC heavyweight champion told Express Sport.
“He needs to defend his title, it’s got to start there. I think Max Holloway is a fight that he needs to fight as well… if he still wants to fight it.”
Meanwhile, McGregor’s former opponent Dustin Poirier has called on the UFC brass to strip the Irishman of the lightweight crown.
“The thing is, the UFC’s pretending with Conor, but you have a list of top 10 fighters who aren’t pretending or messing around,” Poirier told MMAWeekly.
“This is their lives and their goals and their family’s future, a lot of stuff on the line here.
“So no pretending — let’s strip the belt from the guy or make him fight.”
“If you want a spectacle, watch. One thing I could be sure of: Manny wouldn’t carry McGregor the way Mayweather did.”
