Barcelona are expected to be active in the January transfer window as they look to strengthen their options heading into the second half of the season.
But it has also been rumoured the Catalan club will look to offload some players in an attempt to free up some funds.
Javier Mascherano is among the players suggested to be on his way out of the Nou Camp.
And sensationally Luis Suarez’s place in the side was under scrutiny after a slow start to the campaign, with Antoine Griezmann eyed as his possible replacement.
But, according to Diario Gol, Messi has told the club he will not welcome the signing of Griezmann.
And the Argentina international doesn’t want to see his fellow compatriot Mascherano leave.
The supposed stand-off between Messi and Valverde has caused some friction between the pair.
While Messi could get his wish for the club not to sign Griezmann, he could be left powerless over Mascherano’s position with Barcelona reportedly on the verge of completing a move for Yerry Mina.
Mascherano has been at Barcelona since 2010 after leaving Liverpool for a fee close to £25million.
But the 33-year-old has fallen down the pecking order behind Samuel Umtiti and Gerard Pique, starting just eight games in all competitions this season.
