Real Madrid continue to be linked with a move for Manchester United star De Gea despite missing out on him two years ago.
A fee between the two clubs was agreed for the Spain international but, after a faulty fax machine prevented the paperwork from going through on time, De Gea ended up staying put.
Real appear to have cooled their interest in recent weeks with Athletic Bilbao shotstopper Kepa Arrizabalaga on their radar.
But Spanish outlet Don Balon say Los Blancos DO still want De Gea – much to the annoyance of some of their players.
It is said Real Madrid believe De Gea and Kepa can both be happy playing alongside each other.
That, despite the duo also being two of the best goalkeepers Spain has to offer.
Both shotstoppers Keylor Navas and Kiko Casilla are expected to be moved on at the end of the campaign.
Navas is being linked with a move to Juventus, while Casilla could move to the Premier League with Newcastle United.
Yet Don Balon say De Gea’s arrival is causing friction.
Real are supposedly prepared to pay the 27-year-old a salary worth over £10million a year.
And dressing room heavyweights such as Sergio Ramos, Karim Benzema and Isco feel they deserve a similar amount.
De Gea has been in fine form for United this season.
The goalkeeper has shipped just 11 goals from 16 games, keeping nine clean sheets in the process.
Should United lose their star asset then three names are in the frame to replace him.
Gianluigi Donnarumma, Jan Oblak and Jack Butland have all been tipped to move to Old Trafford.
