The hunt for other beings has stepped up recently as UFO sightings increase and scientists send out messages into space.
Nick Pope worked at the Ministry of Defence for 21 years where he investigated UFO sightings – including the notorious Rendlesham Forest incident.
He is convinced the universe contains otherworldly beings and that mankind will soon unlock its secrets.
Mr Pope told Daily Star Online: “I’m convinced there’s other life ‘out there’ and I agree with predictions that we’ll find it soon.
“If there are other civilisations in the universe, the next generation of radio telescopes will be powerful enough to detect them.
“I think we’re edging slowly but surely to the point where if they’re out there, we’ll find them.”
Radio telescopes are antennas used to receiving incoming radio waves – and could help in the hunt for aliens.
Future models will be 10 times more powerful and will allow scientists to delve deeper into the universe.
More than 40,000 Americans have taken out insurance against being abducted by aliens.

One researcher recently suggested that aliens will reach out in the next 10 to 20 years.
Douglas Vakoch, the president of Messaging Extraterrestrial Intelligence (METI), is sending out signals into space in an effort to discover extraterrestrial life.
METI is reaching out to any potential beings on the planet orbiting Proxima Centauri, the closest star other than the sun.
However, Mr Pope believes the point of contact will be much sooner.
This coin was discovered in Egypt – could that be an alien being?
He added: “I wouldn’t be surprised if it was less than that – 10 years, five, maybe less than that. It really could happen any day now.”
Renowned physicist Stephen Hawking has warned that establishing contact with aliens could result in humanity’s destruction.
He believes that a meeting with an “advanced civilisation” could have disastrous consequences for mankind.
Hawking said: “One day, we might receive a signal from a planet like Earth, but we should be wary of answering back.
William Shatner: is a UFO believer, saying, ‘There is no doubt that there is life out there; the mathematics of it lead you to that absolute conclusion. In my mind, there is no doubt that the universe teems – with life in all its form’
“Meeting an advanced civilisation could be like Native Americans encountering Columbus.”
Witnesses have supposedly spotted 25 orbs in the sky, a “flying bus”, and a triangle UFO trailed by military helicopters.
